Hare Krsna, Hare Rama on Elm Street

If you were downtown around 12noon yesterday, you would have seen a group walking up Elm Street chanting Hare Krsna. They were passing out flyers about their event happening today. From 3:00- 6:00 pm, there is a yoga festival at the Temple of the Holy Name, located at 1283 Prabhupada Road in Sandy Ridge. The event is free and includes a free vegetarian feast. We got a little tickled when snapping this photo yesterday, as the man in the middle is offering a brochure to the Jehovah Witness group.

The modern organization, oficially known as the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, is based on the 16th century tradition as Krishna is a Hindu deity. The religion was first founded in the United States in 1966 (in NYC). The Greensboro temple, hosting the event today, was established in 1992. There will also be cultural programs. We are hoping the Krishna chariot will be set up. It is a beauty. Today’s event will be a wonderful opportunity to learn about the Krishna movement.

Happy Sunday!
