More Than Just a Postage Stamp!

The 1954 Brown v. Board of Education and 1955 Montgomery Bus Boycott posters are large repicas of a 2005 U.S. postage stamp collection. There are several stamps replicated in the windows of the International Civil Rights Center and Museum; all are part of the collection entitled “To Form a More Perfect Union.” The collection’s 10 designs all represent milestones of the Civil Rights Movement.*

See the whole sheet of stamps in this page at the Smithsonian National Postal Museum. They are all so beautiful, it is hard to pick a favorite and they fit perfectly in the former Woolworth building where the Greensboro Four’s Sit-ins began on February 1, 1960. Here are some local Black History Month events that may be of interest to you: The Greensboro History Museum’s “Lifted Voices” living history program on 2/28; the weekly walking tours exploring Greensboro’s African-American heritage; the First Friday events at the Cultural Arts Center on 2/6; The local Black History Exhibit & Scavenger Hunt at the Glenwood Branch Library (2/16-21); and the Black History Month Cinema screening of “Eve’s Bayou” at the Hemphill Branch Library (2/24). We hope you can attend some of these events.

Happy Wednesday!
