For 17 years, we’ve been featuring the people, places, and events of Greensboro. We don’t feature downtown everyday, but we do a lot. Above is a photo from the 2024 Holiday Parade but it shows one of our vibrant buses, and, if you notice the shadows, the street is lined with people. Everyone is enjoying the parade. In the bottom middle, you see the shadow of a man holding a child.
Greensboro has revitalized downtown. The Children’s Museum opened in 1999. McCoul’s Public House opened in 2002. Natty Greene’s opened in 2004. LeBauer Park opened in 2016. Tanger Center opened in 2021. These are businesses and community resources established by people who believe in Downtown Greensboro. They have been committed to the 1989 “Field of Dreams” quote, “Build it and they will come.” Rather quickly and recently, we are learning of downtown closures, especially restaurants. After 25 years, McCoul’s Pub is closing. This cozy establishment, a go-to choice before Carolina Theatre events, will be no more. They were early on the movement to revitalize downtown. They will be missed, as will all of the other restaurants closing. Let’s all vote with our wallets by stopping in for a meal with friends. Maybe having events in the building in the 200 block that was previously “Triad Stage” and now the Pyrle will help. With ride services like Uber and Lift, we don’t even need to worry about parking or drinking and driving.
Happy Wednesday.
