The Greensboro Quakers had a great showing in the MLK Parade this past Monday. The above photo was taken at the end of the route, just before the group disbanded for the afternoon. Quakers first settled in the Greensboro/Guilford County area in the 1750s, over 270 years ago. They resettled from Pennsylvania, Nantucket and other enclaves in the north and established new agricultural communities here.
Quakers, with their commitment to simplicity, peace, integrity, community, equity, and stewardship, have a lot in common with the beliefs of Dr. King. At the parade, bystandards clapped and seemed very appreciative to have the Quaker group in the parade. The group represents members of the several different meeting houses in the Greensboro area.
Happy Sunday!
