Yesterday, we spent some time at Marshall Muse Gallery on Church Street and then continued north on Church to Fisher Park. This house on the corner, at 231 North Park Drive, caught our eye. Built in 1951 it is a one bedroom one bath 940 sq. ft. home– on a .18 acre lot. It probably qualifies as a tiny home, but it is LARGE on personality. This graphite paint has a modern look, and the additions to the yard add so much interest..
On the Church Street side, the owner has a “free” pile with a few household goods. The signage reads, “FREE to a good or mediocre home. Okay, even a bad home. Maybe it will help…” That pile had a wind glass, a Mr. Coffee type machine with a coffee pot, a paper shredder, and a couple of other items. Also, there is a mailbox (that formerly housed journals) and a place to sit and journal underneath a landline phone. (Someone, please return those journals). Also part of the display is Carl’s trash can– available for pedestrians. Then, there are the flowers, made from tin cans, nailed to the telephone pole.
Continuing west, from Carl’s, walking along North Park Drive to North Elm Street, we noticed that most of the houses have great personality. There are fascinating entrances, decorations, and a free little library with a great selection of books. One has a porch dubbed, “Porchlandia.” We’re betting that, as with Portlandia, the same two “actors” perform on the porch nightly. To be sure, this is a street with character; as urban walkers and photographers. we were in our glory.
Happy Saturday!
