Borough Coffee at 204 North Mendenhall Street is the perfect place to meet creative types of all ages and all walks of life. On Saturday, we went in for a cup of coffee and left with a new friend. The above photo is of Kennedy Fowler, 1/3 of the trio of KenKelMil Productions. All three recently graduated from UNCG’s theatre program and have banded together to form a production company. Their goal to introduce Shakespeare and other classic plays to a younger audience that might not otherwise see these productions.
Their plays are staged right in the coffee shop (or outside as weather permits). In early November, they staged and performed Shakespeare’s “Two Gentlemen of Verona” at Borough Coffee. Admission is free, with donations gladly accepted to pay the actors. It is so nice seeing the younger generation setting goals and living their dreams. What an undertaking to form a production company, especially one with built-in civic engagement and community involvement. Up next in production is “Little Women.”
Just like the March sisters of “Little Women” are young, but grappling with large questions,* Kimberly and her co-producers are working hard to ensure their generation has access to live theatre and the classics, in a social setting. At their young age, they are providing peers with an alternative to social media and digital communication; and that, dear readers, is a good thing.

Happy Tuesday!
