Every first Friday and Saturday in December, the First Moravian Church of Greensboro on Elam Avenue holds their Candle Tea. The church opens its door to the community with history, music, period dressing, candle making demonstrations, a food and craft sale, and a tea. Many love seeing the Putz– a miniature depiction of the recreation of Christ’s birth. This year, the Grimsley High School Madrigals sang there.
The above photo was taken at the tea, where sweetened coffee and sugar cake are served. The event began in 1962 and it is free and open to the public. If you missed it, you should head over to Old Salem and experience the Moravian culture there. Drive there through Kernersville and see the giant Moravian Star on Main Street. If you are interested in the Christmas season, there are plenty of options in the Greensboro area.
Happy Wednesday!
