Always held the first Friday in December, the Festival of Lights is an annual tradition in downtown Greensboro. Last night, the tree lights were turned on in Center City Park at precisely 6:56 pm. Shortly thereafter, the crowd dispersed with people heading to the many venues to hear music, visit the Merry Marketplace in LeBauer Park, and kick off the holiday season along Elm Street.
The above photo was taken crossing the railroad tracks on South Elm Street heading north at Barnhardt Street. As a point of orientation, peeking through the fog (at the balloon line) is the Lincoln Financial Group building. It gives you an idea of the lively atmosphere downtown last night. Today will be another big day for downtown Greensboro with the Holiday Parade starting at 12:00 noon and lasting for about two hours. There will be floats, marching bands, hot air balloons, and more.
Happy December!
