Life Skills Autism Academy

Life Skills Autism Academy, a Centria Healthcare Company, is located at 1615 Spring Garden Street, the site of the former CVS. One of the centers opened in Winston-Salem in 2024. They use Applied Behavioral Analysis therapy to help children with autism develop life skills. Based on information gleaned from their website (see HERE), they assess and evaluate, develop an individualized treatment plan, and then implement and monitor the plan.

According to this site that tracks autism trends, based on 2020 data, approximately 1 in 39 children aged 8 is diagnosed with autism. It is nice to know that a facility is available to provide services. It is also fascinating to see how quickly this building was converted from a drugstore to a learning center. It is always nice to see empty buildings come back to life. Hopefully, being on the edge of the UNCG campus, there will be opportunities for college students seeking careers in autism therapy.
