The Second Hand Book

Yesterday, we had the good fortune to attend the grand opening of “The Second Hand Book” at 908 Spring Garden Street. It is located next to Recycles Bike Shop in the space where “Hypnotica” was located. You may recognize Julie, the owner, as she often holds pop-ups at the Saturday Corner Market at the corner of Kensington and West Market Streets.

Julie’s shop is small, but super cozy and filled with an amazingly well-curated collection of books. Mostly, they are in the $5-10 price range. There are a few chairs so customers can sit while deciding which books to purchase. Books are organized by category and there is something for everyone. In addition to books, Julie sells greeting cards, Christmas cards, stickers, pins, and more. The College Hill/Glenwood area of town is so lucky to have an indie bookstore now. Stop by and check it out. Julie hasn’t completely nailed down her hours yet (maybe Wed-Fri 11-4ish). She is still seeing what works with her schedule and what her customers want.

Here is a famous quote from a book Julie currently has in stock.

“Lock up your libraries if you like; but there is no gate, no lock, no bolt that you can set upon the freedom of my mind.”
― Virginia Woolf, A Room of One’s Own
