Metropolitan United Methodist Church is located at 1701 East Market Street, just east of North Carolina A&T University. We drove past it on the day we were exploring the area around the campus. According to the cornerstone, it was built in 1976 and the first pastor was Trevor C. Jones.
According to UMC data, as of 2024, the average attendance is 76 with 202 professing members and the ethnicity of the congregation is black (see HERE). The main service is on Sundays at 10:00 am, an hour earlier than many Christian services. We love the angular roof and the way it directs the eye upward to the clouds and heaven beyond. The triangle to the right is actually a screen, adding prominence to the actual entrance of the church. The building is well maintained, the lawn is ample, and the location is convenient to the university. Here’s to the the next 50 years.
Happy Sunday!
