Tate + Gate

Tate + Gate is the clever name for the building UNCG is erecting at the corner of West Gate City Boulevard and Tate Street. Formally, it will be known as the Jeanne Tannenbaum Center for Creative Practice. This multi-purpose cultural arts center will help link the university arts program with the surrounding community. A project that has been in the works since 2022 held a beam-signing ceremony in mid-October.

According to the article for the beam-signing ceremony, the 15,000 sq. ft. building will include: an immersive studio: An adaptable black box theater with low-latency technology for performances, installations, lectures, and other multi-level engagement; a flexible, open space for people to meet and work together on projects of their choosing; a maker space with three flexible studios; and a teaching lab. The building will serve as an anchor for UNCG’s Millenial Campus Initiative. One of the many nice perks of having so many institutions of higher education in the area is that the community-at-large can benefit from their many initiatives. We can’t wait to see how we can enjoy and contribute to this center. Drive by the area and have a look, just west of Oden Brewing.

Happy Saturday!
