It is beginning to look a lot like pumpkin spice. The above photo was taken yesterday at Mt. Pisgah Global Methodist Church, located at the corner of Pisgah Church Road and Battleground Avenue. This dynamic church and active congregation traces its roots back to 1845 to a pre-Civil War Guilford County when Greensboro, located a few miles south of here, had only been a city for 38 years . We were in the area yesterday morning and happened upon the indoor mega-yard sale hosted in the fellowship hall by the Methodist women. Outside, the youth group was set up selling pumpkins.
A member helping the youth with the pumpkin sales reminded us that this fall event has been a major fundraiser for the youths’ mission trips and events since 1990. The pumpkins are still very fresh and beautiful. The largest ones are selling fast and there are only a few blue/gray ones left; otherwise, choices are plentiful.
With the steeple in the background and no signs of busy streets, the above scene harkens back to a quieter time in our city’s history. Today, church members will gather and give thanks, not only for the money made yesterday, but for all of the fellowship between members and others who stopped by for these two events. Pumpkins will be available between now and the end of the month.
Happy Sunday!
