Today’s post is of a green tree frog on our front door late at night. According to the NC Wildlife reference page (HERE), They aren’t supposed to be in Guilford County. The map indicates they stop in the eastern end of Orange County. We are thrilled to host them in our yard and on our glass, front door. The bullfrogs have commandeered the back door and patio. There is a big fat bullfrog who hangs out under the wheel of a piece of patio furniture. These amphibians are our living bug control system and our reward for leaving the yard as natural as possible. The hallmark of the green tree frog is the stripe on their side.
September is nearing the end of their mating season. Soon they will be getting ready to hibernate and winter over. We have never seen one hibernating and are curious to know exactly where they go. Do you have them in your yard? The link above has an amphibian survey program to help monitor sightings. This would be a fun project for students and youth groups. In the meantime, we’ll just keep admiring our creatures of the night in Greensboro.
Happy Friday!
