The Brand New Kiser Middle School

The Brand New Kiser Middle School

Next week, the brand, new Kiser Middle School will welcome students, in a location just a few feet east of the old  building beside Grimsley High School. The school is named for Mayor Claude Kiser (1881- 1952) who served as mayor from 1921-1925, and went to work  for the Greensboro City Schools. He served on the school board for 22 years and as chairman for fifteen. He not only secured land for schools during his tenure, he also helped get highly trained  teachers, whose salaries exceeded the national average. During his time on the school board, schools achieved high rankings, libraries were enlarged and physical, vocational, and visual education were added (Arnett, 1973).*  In her book, Mrs. Arnett has a quote describing Mr. Keyser as a person who served quietly, “who tried to lose his identity in service to his neighbors and the community (p. 347).”  He sounds like he was a great citizen of Greensboro. We’re betting he would be proud of the new Kiser Middle School.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on Monday (8/18/25).  The state-of-the-art building will have a STEM lab, maker space, gymnasium that seats 1,300, flexible classroom seating, and so much more. Here’s to a great school. year for the Kiser Tigers: The students, staff, teachers, administrators, and families. May the learning be inspiring and students be good stewards of this very special learning community.

Happy Wednesday!
