Last night, due to the high heat index outdoors, the MUSEP Concert was changed from Lindley Park to the Van Dyke Performance Space in the Cultural Arts Center on Davie Street. The change of venue may have affected attendance; however, there was a nice, appreciative crowd who followed the band inside, and the performance was spectacular.
Kay Marion & the Neo-Symphony kept the audience entertained for two hours with their pitch-perfect, Neo-soul sound. Kay (center above) is a classically trained vocalist from High Point who delighted the audience with her fabulous voice and personal, endearing stage presence. She has a range of experience from opera, to small clubs, to the North Carolina Folk Festival. Last night, she sang a combination of songs she grew up listening to as well as many original songs. She describes her original lyrics as personal, as if performing lines from her diary. Kay’s music is available on many streaming platforms and you can follow her at https://kay-songbird.com.
The MUSEP Sunday summer concerts, in their 45th year, are free and open to the public. We have the City of Greensboro and several faithful sponsors to thank for this special opportunity to bring people together from all walks of life go gather and listen to local music. It is also a good opportunity to use our city parks and spaces like the Van Dyke Performance Space. There are two more MUSEP concerts on the calendars for 2025. On August 10th, Soultriii will perform at Barber Park. The Phoebes and Nu-Blu will perform on August 24th at Keeley Park.
Happy Monday!
