Welcome to NC

During the summer, do you take weekend vacations? The above photo was taken during one of our recent summer get-aways to Virginia and West Virginia. It is always nice to return to North Carolina and see the “Welcome to North Carolina” sign. In this case, we were on back roads and our entry was through Stokes County. How fun to get “home” and see the “Cabbage for sale” and “Sweet corn.” Truly, those are North Carolina summer crops. Also, stopping and reading a North Carolina historic marker is always special.

The dividing line between North Carolina and Virginia was initially surveyed in 1728, with Stokes County being a key point in the process. It was a significant point in the process of dividing the two colonies. Stokes was also had a village of the Saura Indians.

As we get closer to the start of school, we are reminded that the Historical Society of North Carolina recognizedsNorth Carolina teachers who do an outstanding job of teaching North Carolina (see HERE). Start talking to your Guilford County, North Carolina history teacher friends NOW and let’s hope that one wins this year!!

Happy Saturday!
