Norfolk Southern at Oakland Avenue

Norfolk Southern at Oakland Avenue

Is is so fun to stand along Oakland Avenue, off of Spring Garden Street and watch Norfolk Southern come by.  Because of our rich railroad history, Greensboro became known as the “Gate City.” We were a major transportation hub, the gateway between north and south and east and west. The 1850s were really the beginning of our legacy as a transportation hub and center for transporting supplies. Rail access really helped grow the industrial sector here. Southern Railway built a passenger station in 1927 and in 1982, Southern Railway merged with Norfolk and Western Railway, forming the Norfolk Southern Corporation.  It is so nice to see Norfolk Southern  still coming through. We’re wondering if the man and his dog, in the above photo, enjoy seeing a train as much as we do.

It would be even greater to have even more rail use in the USA. Have you used our rail service in any way lately? We’re hoping to travel by Amtrak this fall. Now, with Uber, Lift, and other ride services, it is easy to get around in a destination city, even without a personal vehicle. Let’s plan a trip!

Happy Thursday!
