Roost n Roots Garden and Rabbity is a homestead farm on one acre, just over the Rockingham County line. They were inspired by a book, “Paradise Lot: Two Plant Geeks, One Tenth of an Acre, and the Making of an Edible Garden Oasis in the City” by Eric Toensmeier and Johnathan Bates. Craig and Jen are in their 7th year of their farming journey. While they live on just one acre of land, they have an elaborate garden, a rabbity with multiple breeds of rabbits, flowers, herbs, and more. They pride themselves in growing harder to find plants. Examples include comfy, borage, edible flowers, valerian, heirloom tomatoes, glacier tomatoes, and cleome.
Craig and Jen follow permaculture practices and don’t use any chemicals on their garden. Initially, they started growing for themselves so that they could eat better; however, now, they are in a position to be able to sell some of their produce. Greg has a health condition that keeps him close to the farm, so setting up a Saturday farm table is perfect for them. They will be selling tomorrow morning. If you follow them on Facebook or on Instagram under roostnrootsgardenandrabbitry. If you are looking forward to a Saturday drive, head out to 200 Stone Fox Road, Summerfield, NC and have a look at their farm stand.
