Earlier in the month Art in the Arboretum was held in the Greensboro Arboretum in Lindley Park. The events in the arboretum are always lively and attract a wide variety of people of all ages and of many different ethnic backgrounds. The two young students were strolling back and forth on the promenade, proudly celebrating their Korean heritage. Sometimes it is fun to wear jeans and a t-shirt. Greensboro has, after all, a long history of making blue jeans. However, it is also fun to deviate from this routine of casual clothing and wear clothes that connect us to our family’s history. In the teen years, it can be challenging to dare to be yourself. How wonderful that these two students can share their heritage with the Greensboro community.
You will have an opportunity to see people of Greensboro celebrating their Mexican heritage and their deceased loved ones at the upcoming Day of the Dead events, hosted by Casa Azul (see schedule, here). If we had a celebrate-your-heritage day, what would you wear?
