Tubman, who was born in 1822, lived to the age of 90, in spite of her brutal treatment and hard life as a slave. Tubman dedicated her life to equal rights and to helping others to freedom, especially through the Underground Railroad.

The sculptor of the above piece, Vandorn Hinnant, is originally from Greensboro and is known to return for art events. In January, he attended the installation of the MLK bust in Ole Asheboro. Hinnant grew up in Ole Asheboro and studied at NC A&T and UNC Greensboro. He is also a founding member of the African-American Atelier in Greensboro. As hinted in the above sculpture, his art connections to social justice and geometry.*
