Hurricane Dorian is bringing high winds and storm surges to the coast of North Carolina. So far, Greensboro has experienced some wind, but nothing damaging. The above photo, taken yesterday afternoon, shows a meadow of tall grass bending as winds were coming through. The scene looks like it could be at the Carolina coast; however, it is actually on land that was once part of Jefferson-Pilot’s 414 acres at New Garden Road.

Many school districts east and south of Guilford County closed because of the storm. Fortunately, Dorian is not likely going to disrupt the school or work day in Greensboro. Dorian, is a name that comes from Greek, meaning “gift.” Let’s hope Dorian’s gift will be to die down and not cause damage and not disrupt our much-anticipated North Carolina Folk Festival- underway this afternoon!
