8th Annual Día de Muertos Exhibition 2018

The Greensboro non-profit, Casa Azul, has installed a Día de Muertos/Day of the Dead altars in the Center for Visual Artists at the Greensboro Cultural Arts Center on Davie Street. The altars were assembled for First Friday this past weekend and will remain on display through the middle of November. For those who have questions, volunteers are available to explain the details of this religious holiday. Day of the Dead is a blend of Catholicism and Aztec traditions. Families make altars for loved ones who are no longer living. Each altar is special in its own way. The altar for the singer Prince (completely decorated in purple) is getting a lot of attention. There is also an altar for past administrators at UNCG.

Casa Azul began in 2010 in Greensboro as a group of artists and professionals to promote Latin-American arts and culture, to promote inter- and intra-cultural dialog. The Day of the Dead is a religious holiday often misunderstood by those who do not celebrate it, and assembling and sharing the altars is one example of the fine work on the part of Casa Azul. Happy Sunday!
