The pumpkin patches are out at the local churches. The above church is Centenary United Methodist Church on Friendly Avenue, near Elam. This church could well have been one of the first. Jim Schlosser wrote an article for the News & Record in 2005, stating that Centenary had been selling pumpkins for 30 years, since 1975, making it 43 years now. * We don’t know about current sales, but in the 2005 article, it was reported that they sell about 4,000 pumpkins. 

If you are looking for a pumpkin and want to start a tradition with some young children, take them to one of the pumpkin patches at a church. Those are some memories that will last a lifetime. On the day this photo was taken, a little one was having a really hard time picking the ideal pumpkin. His conversation with his parents was so cute. Happy Sunday!
