The above photo is of Spring Garden Street, facing east towards Chapman Street. With all of the telephone poles, the scene is reminiscent of a yacht club when the masts of the sailboat are poking out of the hull with no sign of a mainsail. The wires look like the fore- and backstays. That gray asphalt is a calm-before-the-storm intercostal waterway. Perhaps, it is a we can’t help thinking of the beach since summer vacation time is coming to a close.
This photo was taken a few weeks ago, when only one cyclist can be seen biking along on a Limebike and a few cars are moving down Spring Garden. Since the colleges and universities have started back, traffic in this part of town has increased significantly. Be extra careful if you are behind the wheel and allow a little extra time. We’ve got to keep our students, and selves, safe as everyone readjusts to Greensboro’s population at its peak. UNCG and NCA&T alone add well over 30,000 students. They are about to embark on one of the great adventures of their lifetime.
