Soccer Season

Soccer season is upon us and Greensboro has become quite a soccer city. In the above photo, elementary school players are practicing in the fields beside the First Baptist Church on Friendly Avenue. From city youth sports to YMCA soccer to full-service soccer association offerings, there is soccer for children at every age and every level of playing. As of 2012, 30% of all American households had at least one person playing soccer. (Surely, Greensboro’s statistics are close).

On August 24th of 2017, Greensboro teen Gianluca Busio signed a professional contract with Sporting Kansas City. He was only 15 years old. Wade Forte, the director of Fusion Academy in Greensboro said that Gianluca’s competitiveness became apparent when he was about ten.* It will be fun for Greensboro’s school aged soccer players to follow Gianluca’s career. Whether the players in the above field stick with the sport and play professionally or just play for fun, hopefully, they will have the work ethic of Greensboro’s youngest professional soccer player.
