Printworks Bistro is a place with a lot of interesting meanings behind it. First, it is named for the Proximity Printworks Mill, a 100-year-old, now-abandoned mill located near Revolution Mill in northeast Greensboro on Fairview Street. The Printworks Bistro is located in the Proximity Hotel, just off Green Valley Road. As you can see from the above photo, the restaurant is flooded with light as it is meant to replicate the cutting room floor in the Printworks Mill. You would need a lot of light to be able to cut and sew accurately. 

The word “bistro” is believed to have derived from Russian meaning “fast”. Russians in Paris would shout “bistro, bistro” wanting to get their food quickly. A place that is known to serve up food quickly has become known as a bistro. So Printworks Bistro is a place with good lighting that serves up good food, as quickly as you need it to be served. It name pays respect to Greensboro’s mill history and, as feasible, they use locally sourced food. Perhaps, best of all, it is Greensboro’s first restaurant to achieve LEED platinum status for its sustainable practices.
