The Virgin Mary is drenched in symbolism and, up until the 18th century, the was the single-most commonly depicted female figure. While there are many different ideas about her and her role in Christianity, she is Jesus’ mother and in iconography is depicted with him. She is linked to human nature and the earthly aspect of Christianity.* In St. Luke’s gospel, it is said that Mary kept all things in her heart to ponder them.
The above photo is of a painting of Mary that was turned into a collage and recently for sale at a Greensboro thrift store. Last time we checked, she had been sold. Somebody in Greensboro has rescued her. It made us wish we’d left a business card taped to the back of the piece asking the person who purchased it to let us know what happens to her. We hope you have a great Sunday and, if you have time, look around and see the beauty around us. Mary would want that.
