The above photo was taken on McGee Street, just off Hamburger Square, in downtown Greensboro. The statue is of General Nathanael Greene, the Revolutionary War General for whom Greensboro is named. (The statue itself  is actually located in the center of the round-about at Keith Holliday Circle). On days with beautiful sunsets, this view from West McGee Street is most spectacular. General Greene eternally stands guard over our fair city, as if protecting us. The bronze statue on a granite base was made by sculptor James Barnhill and dedicated in 2008. While the General Greene is stealing the show, today’s focus is McGee Street, a street that ribbons through Greensboro from just past Natty Greene’s Restaurant on the east side to Edgar Street in College Hill in the west. It is a street full of life, evident from the patio of Natty Greene’s or at the outside seating of M’Coul’s Public House at 110 W. McGee.
