R is for Replacements

Replacements is a homegrown business in Greensboro. They are the world’s largest retailer of dishes, china, and sterling flatware. Located on Knox Rd. in McLeansville, Replacements can be seen easily from the interstate just east of Greensboro. Bob Page opened the business in 1981. He left his job as auditor in North Carolina to pursue his dream of starting a mail order business out of his small attic on North Elm Street in Greensboro. Today, the multi-million dollar business and, if we read Wikipedia correctly, after several expansions of their warehouse and consolidating all of their locations, the Knox Road location has a million square feet.*

In 1986, Replacements was identified as one of the fastest growing businesses in the United States. Even Oprah Winfrey and the Vatican have shopped here! Today is ABC Wednesday and for our A-Z Alphabet series, “R” is for Replacements- an appropriate word for the day after a presidential election.
