This photo, taken in Greensboro last month, seems so long ago. With these recent crisp mornings, the frogs have slowed down, backyard pools are now closed; only the tenacious Virginia creeper in the above photo is lingering through October. By the end of the month, this flowering plant in the grape family will put on a brilliant show of fall color in Greensboro. As for this Southern Leopard Frogs,*  they will soon hibernate, if they haven’t already.

While we are on the topic of nature, let us remind you that All-A-Flutter , near Southwest High School, will be releasing their monarch butterflies this afternoon at 1:00 pm-  so that they may join the others on their migration back to the Biosphere Reserve in Michoacan, Mexico. It has been said that the butterflies return to Mexico just in time for the Day of the Dead on November 1st. Be on the lookout this weekend for butterflies, frogs, and other great things in nature. Next weekend will be the Persimmon Festival in Greensboro, an opportunity to enjoy a seasonal, southern treat. Greensboro has so many opportunities for starting family traditions centered around celebrating our environment; we hope you have some local outdoor fun today!
