Dog Days

Greensboro families love their pets and in our parks. On warm sunny days, dogs being walked by their owners is a common site. The above photo was taken in the Greensboro Arboretum during the recent art event. It features two Great Pyrenees dogs. This livestock guardian dog can weigh up to 120 pounds. While they can be gentle and affectionate, they can also be very strong willed and fearless. They love to feel like they are being useful and are very hardworking on farms. We saw four or five of them, the day we saw these two. As seen in the above photo, they drew a lot of attention and everyone wanted to pet them. The fact that they were impeccably groomed made them extra appealing to passers by.

If you are looking for something to do outdoors this weekend, head to one of Greensboro’s great parks and count the number of dogs you see. If you do not have a canine companion, consider heading to a place the rehomes dogs, like a pound or a rescue. There are many dogs waitings for forever homes in Greensboro at the NC Pyr rescue site, there are currently nine available (here). Hope to see you out on the trails this weekend, with or without a canine companion!
