Heavenly Skies

Recently, while urban exploring on Mill Street, we went into the Red Collection. Heading back to our car, we could not get over the intensity of the chiaroscuro scene. It reminded us of a quote from Galileo, “The Bible shows the way to go to heaven, not the way the heavens go.” Galileo believed that religion and science were compatible ways to understand the universe.

Today at sunset is the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, the first of the High Holy Days. If you are near a temple or synagogue and hear extra noise, you may be hearing the sound of a shofar. A sweet Rosh Hashanah quote that we found was: May the sound of the shofar herald a New Year filled with joy, peace, laughter, and love.

That sounds like a way to understand the universe that is compatible with just about everyone’s beliefs. Happy Sunday and Happy Rosh Hashanah. Whether in Greensboro, or elsewhere, believer in God and/or science, may we nurture similarities and respect differences. That sounds like heaven on earth.
