Ice Cold

On the dog days of summer, like Greensboro is experiencing now, cold drinks just seem to hit the spot. This weather gives us a great appreciation for how our relatives, from earlier generations, simply had to slow down, take more breaks, and sip more cold drinks to get through the heat. Ninety degrees is no laughing matter, especially on the hot surfaces of the city.

The above photo features an Hawaiian Ice shop between the News and Record building and South Elm Street. As a point of orientation, on the upper left side of the photo you can see the back entrance to Schiffman’s Jewelry Store. The photo below features the great lettering on the mural at the side of the building, advertising, “ICE COLD.”

Unfortunately, the above business does not appear to be open to the public. There is, however,  an Hawaiian Ice cart nearby on Elm Street (see article, here).  Maybe this building is where the Hawaiian Ice cart retreats at the end of a long, hot, summer day. (Something else to investigate).

Have a great weekend, everyone!
