Yesterday, for Greensboro’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Parade, temperatures were in the high 20’s. Since the sun was out and it was a clear day, nobody had to worry about getting instruments or uniforms wet. Parade participants may have been cold, but they were dry. The above photo is of a section of the Dudley High School Marching Band, the Blue and Gold Panthers. Their arrival along the parade route was much anticipated by spectators. Dudley’s two drum majors and the Dudley High Alumni Association led the band along the route, from one end of MLK, Jr. Drive to South Elm Street- 1.8 miles. They gave a spectacular performance.

Until taking this photo, we’d never noticed the house in the background, which looks more like something you would see in Southern California than in Greensboro. In addition to enjoying the marching bands, politicians, churches and other organizations kept children entertained with all of the candy they tossed out to spectators. Some children had gallon storage bags full. This community event reminded us all to work together for our community, and it was a great opportunity to spend time with friends and loved ones.
