Greensboro has great live theatre and the season is in full swing. We have school plays, community theatre, and college and university theatre programs.  Local venues are making casting calls, in rehearsal, and even in production. It is the 15th season for Triad Stage and Tennessee Williams’ “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof”, their first play of the season, will close this weekend. Community Theatre of Greensboro is in the middle of callbacks for Dracula, showing Lion King, Jr., and holding auditions for Wizard of Oz this weekend. The Open Space Cafe  will stage “Arsenic and Old Lace” in October. Five plays by O. Henry will run through this weekend, too.

The above photo is a miniature creation of the main scene from the play “Common Enemy.” The play, written by Preston Lane of Triad Stage, had its world premiere at Triad Stage last season. It got rave reviews. With Duke, UNC, NC State and Wake Forest in our backyard, the theme of college basketball is near and dear to North Carolinians. The notion of ethics in sports is a timely topic, too. This year, Triad Stage will debut “Radiunt Abundant” by Preston Lane and Laurelyn Dossett. Indeed, if you like community theatre, Greensboro is a great place to be!
