F is for Farms

Today’s photo is a flashback to October, before the leaves changed colors and dropped from the trees. The farm is located on Carlson Dairy Road approaching Pleasant Ridge Road. The scene is one that has been ever so common, in Guilford County,  since the Revolutionary War. In the late 20th and now 21st century, many of these farms have been sold off for housing tracts, highways, office buildings, and retail. Driving down Horse Pen Creek, there appears to be one farm remaining, and actually, they may have sold the cow. Organizations like the Piedmont Land Conservancy have been created to make sure the drive to develop is balanced with conserving land and water for future generations.

Greensboro should have just a little more of a month left of winter. Before you know it, trees will be greening out again. Make sure you get out to enjoy those country farms left on the fringe of the county. They are beautiful in every season. That little house on the hill looks so cozy. Today is ABC Wednesday and for our Alphabet Soup series, F is for farms.
