Troy Bumpas House

The Parthenon was the inspiration for the Troy Bumpas Inn, located at 114 South Mendenhall Street. Notice the portico roof and the four, tapered, Doric columns in front. The Greek Revival home was completed in the late 1840’s by Rev. Sydney Bumpas who was a trustee at neighboring Greensborough Female College (now Greensboro College). It is one of the few pre-Civil War homes remaining in Greensboro. Since 1977, it has been on the National Register of Historic Places.* For several years, the house was cut up into several apartments. In 1991, Preservation Greensboro Incorporated helped save the house and ensure that the integrity of the house would not be compromised. In 1992, the Troy-Bumpas Inn was designated a Guilford County Landmark Property and, since then, it has been a bed and breakfast.

It would be fun to book a room and stay there, even though we’re Greensboro residents. The weekend is here. Stay in the above Greek Revival house, walk to the Acropolis restaurant to eat Greek food. Wonder if there is room in the inn…………..
