The Patriot Guard Riders were in town recently. Here we see a row of their bikes, parked along Smothers Place with South Elm Street in the background. The PGR are a diverse group of riders across the nation that show their respect to those who risk their lives for America’s freedom and security. At the request of the families of fallen heroes (e.g., military, firefighters, policemen), the freedom riders attend funerals. If necessary, they serve as human shields if the family members are at risk of being bothered by protesters. The long poles on the back of the motorcycles serve as flag poles when the riders are working. According to their website, anyone who supports their mission is invited to be part of the group. The only prerequesite is RESPECT. Having a motorcycle isn’t mandatory….. but it helps.

The group was formed in 2005 in Kansas. Persently, they have around a quarter of a million members across the nation. We wonder if these riders are local or if they were just in town for the day. If you know, please share with our readers.
