Allow us to indulge in one more night photo, this one of the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant which previously we featured by day, here. This church is the College Hill neighbor of the fire hall turned grocery store featured yesterday. Church of the Covenant has worked hard to survive downtown in an era when so many people have flocked to the suburbs for their spiritual needs. Church of the Covenant offers many spiritual options for those who desire a more traditional service to those who like a more contemporary service. The church is known for offering fabulous music concerts. Also, it houses offices for non-profit organizations. (If you are looking for a great place to rent, likely, space is available).
Church of the Covenant dates to the beginning of the 20th century with the first brick component of the building constructed in 1914 (read more history of the building here). If you are local and like beautiful stained glass, some of the stained glass in Church of the Covenant is Tiffany. The chandeliers, custom-designed for the church, were hand-made in Raleigh, NC. Each chandelier is 6 feet in diameter.
A “covenant” is a sacred agreement between God and human beings. The terms “testament” and “covenant” are interchangeable. This is our weekend religious post. A review of the past year is available here.
