Gospel Roads Baptist Church is located at the corner of East Joyner and Apple Streets in Gibsonville, NC, just east of Greensboro– but still in Guilford County. It is a Southern Baptist Church with traditional hymns and contemporary worship. This photo was taken the Saturday AFTER Easter, but as you can see, they still had so much symbolism displayed to represent the Easter season. There is the cross with the white cloth draped around it to represent the resurrection. Also representing the resurrection is a tabernacle with the stone moved away. On the doors to the sanctuary are crosses made from flowers. Above the doors is the permanent, stained-glass image of Christ with the three rays beaming above him. There is a lot of symbolism in that window alone.
There is also a Gospel Road Church in Eden, NC. We’re not sure of the origin of the name, but one possibility is the 1971 Johnny Cash film project. In 1973, Johnny released a documentary-style movie called The Gospel Road: A Story of Jesus.* If you know that is, indeed, the origin of the name, please let us know!
Happy Sunday!
