Last night at Guilford College, Anderson Visiting Writer Tita Ramirez read from her debut novel, “Tell It To Me Singing.” Ms. Ramirez, originally from Miami, is now a Greensboro resident. Her dad’s heritage is Cuban and her mom traces her roots to Kentucky and West Virginia. The Campo family in the book was part of the mass emigration from Cuba during the Mariel boatlift. The book intertwines Cuban traditions with life in the United States. We highly recommend reading “Tell It To Me Singing.” It would be perfect for a book club read. There are two alternating points of view between mother an daughter and Ms. Ramirez uses this literary device masterfully.
Ms. RamĂrez is an Associate Professor of English and Creative Writing at Elon University. However, this spring, she has also been an Anderson Visiting Writer at Guilford College. In addition to providing last night’s reading, she serves as a resource for English & Creative writing majors at Guilford College. Several of those majors were present at the reading last night. Guilford College is such a valuable community resource in Greensboro and they are very generous about sponsoring events, like last night’s author presentation, tat are free and open to the public. The event was held n the Orangerie on campus. That was a special experience. With the gazebo-like glass walls, it felt like the audience members were participating in a scene from the Sound of Music.
Happy Friday!
The reading took place at the Orangerie on the Guilford College campus.
