Police Plaza

The above photo, taken yesterday, features the police headquarters. It was a lovely day and with that red car driving by made the building really stand-out. This is the view that opens up between Holliday Circle and the Carolina Theatre. The building originally opened in 1955, but held a ribbon cutting ceremony in 2011, the year the building was awarded to the city.* The property is located on 2.14 acres.

While the police headquarters looked rather quite, we were struck at how busy downtown was for a Sunday afternoon. The newly re-opened Rhino Club was busy and people were even eating in the small outdoor seating area. There is good variety on the menu. The Bodega, across from the Carolina Theatre, was busy. Perhaps the Hampton Inn on West McGee and the Carolina Theatre, with their events, has this part of town hopping. Now that McCoul’s is closed, it is nice to know there are nearby options for grabbing a bite before heading to a theatre event.

If you haven’t been on South Greene Street lately, when you get a chance, go check it out. You should also check out the police station. Some parts of it are open to the public. It is, after all, a community resource. Happy exploring; happy March!
