T is for Townspeople

This photo dates to Saturday, April 30th, when a group gathered in front of Scuppernong Books downtown on South Elm Street to protest North Carolina’s HB2, the bill (often referred to as the bathroom bill) that is now law.* As we were preparing this week’s “T” for ABC Wednesday, we kept coming back to this photo because it shows residents of Greensboro coming together and exercising their right to freedom of expression. They were assembling peacefully, playing and singing great music in the hopes of bringing about change.

Even though there were no trombones in front of Scuppernong, the lively scene leaves us whistling 76 Trombones and thinking about the transformative power of townspeople playing music. So, for our A-Z Urban Finds Series, “T” is for “townspeople.” See more ABC Wednesday choices for “T” around the world, here.
