The Greensboro Chapter of the NAACP hosted yesterday’s 2011 Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade. Here we see Grand Marshals,  Maurice “Mo” Green and Sandra Hughes. Mr. Green is the superintendent of Guilford County Schools and Ms. Hughes is a retired WFMY news anchor. The parade route was held along Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, just east of downtown Greensboro. In spite of the cold weather, spirits were high as onlookers reflected on the parade’s purpose and Rev. King’s impact on civil rights in not only our city but also our country. The parade was an intergenerational experience. Adults talked, embraced, and greeted people they knew as they rode by. Children waited patiently for the next group that would toss candy into the crowd. People in cars drove with windows down not just waiving but reminding kids to stay in school, go to college, and to believe in their dreams. The weather was gray; the enthusiasm was technicolor!
